Introduction
With the following text we want to illustrate the procedure for the style check process. By separating it into a character profile (DE: Steckbrief) and style check (See the latest year), the effort should be minimized. The goal of the style check is to eliminate inappropriate objects in the representation and, if desired by the creator, to provide advice.
The rumor still persists that only grave reconstructions and representations at the level of Living History are permitted - this is definitely not the case!
The entire style check process is completely private and can only be viewed by you and the style checkers; this applies to both the profile and the style check itself.
Character Profile
In the character profile (DE: Steckbrief), you present your character once in bullet points and showcase photos of your clothing and equipment. This profile will be updated in case of changes or newly added clothing and items. If you are playing a specific region or are visually orientated towards it, please indicate this (e.g. Birka 10th century). Unless you're aiming for a specific orientation or have a fantasy background, just state "generic."
Example:
Name: Erik Eksempelson
Origin: Denmark
Time Period: 9th Century
Social Status: Jarl/Huskarl/Drenger/Bondir…
[2-3 photos of clothing, please make sure to upload your "everyday attire" and your "battle attire." Also, ensure that the essential components of your clothing are visible.]
The thread can be concise. You don't need to list all your garments and equipment. If there are any questions, the style checkers will ask you to upload additional pictures if necessary.
Style check
The style check is created anew every year if one wants to participate in Norrelag. You simply include a link to the character profile, and in the case of desired advice, it can be indicated here. The style checkers will then give you green light or point out inconsistencies that should be left at home.
FAQ
Do I need to send a photo of each individual item?
No, it is not necessary. The overall picture must be recognizable, including the essential/obvious parts of your attire and equipment. However, please do not attempt to hide things that may be critical. Especially with newcomers, our approach is very lenient, but we are not pleased if we feel that people are intentionally omitting things from the style check.
What if I acquire or craft new items before the event?
Feel free to describe your plans in the style check, and our style checkers will be able to assess planned equipment within the context of your overall image. Providing pictures at a later time is also always an option.
What if I get rejected?
Sometimes, a piece of clothing may not adhere to the camp's guidelines. It's not a big issue; often, the solution can be to leave that item at home or make adjustments later. For everything else, as a large community, we find a solution together. No one who was eager to attend the event has had to stay at home so far.
